About this wine
Character
The Marsannay rouge 2022 is a bright, lively Pinot Noir with a beguiling floral bouquet. Violet, wild raspberry and raspberry jam lead, joined by sour cherry and elderberry. Beneath lie leather, light tobacco and hazelnut, rounded out by forest floor, bark and a hint of truffle. In the glass, a sparkling ruby red with violet reflections.
Terroir and origin
The wine comes from the Marsannay appellation in Burgundy. Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, where Jean-Louis Trapet farms 18.5 hectares in the seventh generation, biodynamically since 1996. His guiding principle, "Les hommes passent et la terre reste," describes the approach taken in the vineyard: to accompany, never to force.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir. In the cellar, work is done by gravity with minimal intervention; for the estate's village wines, the proportion of new oak is 20 to 25 percent, so that fruit and origin remain to the fore. 13.0% vol., dry.
On the palate
Stony, cool impressions move invigoratingly across the tongue. The acidity is pointed and clearly perceptible, the tannin fine-grained and polished, with saline, mineral notes remaining present throughout. The finish is stimulating and pleasantly demanding. Already drinkable now, though in the coming years the earthy, deep aromas are likely to emerge more clearly.
Special features
The domaine traces back to Arthur Trapet, who secretly grafted vines onto American rootstock in the 1880s. Forbidden at the time, permitted from 1888, and today the basis of viticulture. Jean-Louis Trapet has carried on this legacy since the 1990s, placing terroir transparency and fine-grained tannin above power.
