About this wine
Character
A juicy, soft red wine blend built around cherry and plum. Dry, medium body, 15% ABV that the wine carries without any sense of heaviness.
Terroir and origin
When a wildfire destroyed over 1,500 hectares of pine forest in northern Ibiza in 2011, it exposed centuries-old dry-stone walls in the Morna valley. Peter and Tino Lehner, two brothers from the Lötschental in Valais, cleared the charred scrub, rebuilt the walls stone by stone, and planted vines. Today 2.5 hectares stand at 320 metres above sea level on marl and sandstone soils, Ibiza's highest producing vineyard. The cool nights at this altitude preserve the wine's freshness. The island's entire vineyard area totalled just 59 hectares in 2021, with five estates producing 127,000 litres.
Grape varieties and vinification
Two-fifths Syrah, two-fifths Monastrell, one-fifth Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand-harvested and selected, cold maceration, fermentation in steel tank, followed by twelve months in used French oak barriques and a further twelve months in bottle.
On the palate
Ripe cherry and plum, alongside a fine herbal and tobacco spice. Juicy and round, the tannins polished, the acidity fresh enough to carry the ripe fruit. An inviting spice lingers on the finish.
Food pairings
Mushroom-stuffed croquettes and cream of paprika soup.
Special features
The name pays tribute to the Valais Blacknose sheep. The Lehners have worked organically since planting their very first vine and have followed biodynamic principles since 2021; alongside wine, the estate also produces olive oil from 100 of its own trees and honey. Only a few thousand bottles leave the estate each year, here in a 1500 ml magnum.
