About this wine

Character

A full, lively Champagne that showcases the red fruit of Pinot Noir with no sweetness whatsoever. Pale salmon pink with coppery highlights, lively mousse. The nose offers strawberry and raspberry, along with blood orange, clove, sweet cherry and fizzy redcurrant.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow in organically farmed vineyards near Urville on the Côte des Bar, on Jurassic Kimmeridgian limestone that lends the wines a mineral edge. Pinot Noir covers 70 percent of the 62 hectares; Georges Collot, Michel Drappier's maternal grandfather, was the first to replant the variety on the Côte des Bar in the 1930s. The wine ages in cellar vaults built by the Cistercian monks of Clairvaux in 1152, at a constant 10 degrees.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Pinot Noir, made using the saignée method. The Champagne remains unfiltered and receives no dosage: Brut Nature means no sugar is added after disgorgement. Less than 40 mg/l sulphites, 12.0% ABV.

On the palate

Juicy, almost easy-drinking, round and full-bodied, carried by fine texture, structure and freshness. On the palate, grenadine, blood orange, brioche and toast with the finest yeasty sweetness, alongside a light touch of acidity and a lively bead.

Food pairing recommendations

The full style stands up to intense dishes: seared salmon, duck breast, braised poultry, boldly spiced seafood and spicy Asian dishes.

Special features

The disgorgement date is engraved on the bottle base. In 2016, Drappier became the first Champagne house to achieve climate neutrality; 17 hectares are organic-certified, with more in conversion. Sheep graze between the vine rows, and Antoine Drappier ploughs the biodynamic plots with his draft horse.
