About this wine
Character
The colour is coral, the perlage still lively. Dry, energetic and marked by a strong sense of place: a rosé Champagne made for the table, one that tells its origin through structure and earthy aromatics rather than fruit.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from Grand Cru sites in Verzy and Verzenay, on the northern edge of the Montagne de Reims. The soil is clay-limestone. The vines are 50 years old; Adrien Renoir's parcels in Verzy were planted between 1961 and 1971. Verzy is one of the 17 villages in Champagne classified as Grand Cru.
Grape variety and vinification
The blend is pure Pinot Noir from the 2023 vintage, complemented by 5% red wine. The base wine fermented spontaneously, remained unsulphured, and aged on full lees in used barriques and large oak casks. Tirage took place in July 2024, disgorgement in February 2026 with a dosage of 2.4 g/L, making it Extra Brut.
On the palate
On the nose, graphite and pencil shavings, followed by earth and stone, red berries, grapefruit zest and a hint of cake batter. The attack is lively and youthful, the mousse foaming lightly at first before settling quickly. On the palate, autumn leaves and undergrowth, red berries and cider apple with its skin, with the pencil shavings returning. Dry, with plenty of energy.
Food pairing
A decidedly gastronomically oriented Champagne. It calls for dishes with delicate roasted notes, light spice and a certain juiciness: less sweetness, more umami.
Special features
Adrien Renoir is a fourth-generation winegrower who, in 2014 at the age of 29, took over his father's five hectares in Verzy. Since 2015 he has forgone herbicides; the base wines ferment spontaneously with their own yeasts in neutral oak, and disgorgement happens without any addition of sulphur. Dosage levels remain consistently minimal.
