About this wine

Character

A pale Nebbiolo that draws its impact from precision rather than weight. Pale ruby red with delicate lightening toward the rim and violet highlights; the nose already reveals finesse and cool mineral depth.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow in the municipalities of Canale and Santo Stefano Roero, in the Mompellini, Loreto and San Grato sites. The subsoil is characterised by clay and sand, exposure ranges from south-west to east and west, and vine age varies from vineyard to vineyard. Luca Faccenda and Carolina Roggero farm 3.5 hectares on steep, sandy slopes between 260 and 400 metres above sea level, on the ancient seabed of the Sabbie Astiane.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Nebbiolo. Each parcel is harvested at its own optimal ripeness, with the individual lots then combined into a blend. Three weeks of maceration, fermentation in barrel over several weeks, bottled under a waning moon the following autumn, followed by further ageing in bottle.

On the palate

Sour cherry and wild raspberry lead, joined by blossom, thyme and rosehip. Dry, with red berry fruit and delicate fruit sweetness; the acidity is refreshing, invigorating, and lends the wine a distinctly slender build. The tannin is still youthful and calls for a counterpart on the plate. 13.5% vol.

Food pairings

The youthful tannin calls for hearty, rustic dishes.

Distinctive features

A map from 1749 records "Valle Faccenda" at precisely the spot where Luca Faccenda and Carolina Roggero founded the winery in 2010; the estate building, dating from 1929, is a listed heritage site. Together with Alberto Oggero and Enrico Cauda, Luca Faccenda founded the SoloRoero collective, aimed at bringing more attention to the region. His motto: "Everything is already in the grape, we just have to preserve it."
