About this wine
Character
Transparent ruby red in the glass, and on the nose a cherry fruit with no detour: sour cherry and black morello cherry, joined by plum, blackberry and mulberry, with a note of the fruit stone in the background. Layered over this are orange zest, cedary nuances and the dark spice of black and white pepper with citrus overtones.
Terroir and origin
Luca Faccenda and Carolina Roggera founded the estate in 2010 in Canale in the Roero; a map from 1749 already records "Valle Faccenda" at this very site. The 3.5 hectares are spread across five vineyard sites between 260 and 400 metres of altitude: Valfaccenda and Madonna di Loreto in Canale, Le Rocche, San Grato and Valmaggiore in Vezza. The steep slopes consist of sand from the Sabbie Astiane, ancient seabed of the Padanian Gulf, in places interspersed with clay sediments.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, one of only two indigenous varieties planted here at all. Luca Faccenda studied oenology and holds to his guiding principle: "Everything is already in the grape, we just have to preserve it." He listens to the vines, waits, and intervenes only when necessary. 13.5% ABV, vinified dry.
On the palate
Juicy and fresh, the tannins youthful but already polished, the acidity lively and carrying through to an ethereally cool finish. An open-hearted Nebbiolo with a clear varietal character, not built for years in the cellar.
Food pairings
Ossobuco Milanese, grilled grey mullet with confit pointed peppers and walnuts, or baked black salsify with tarragon vinaigrette and roasted hazelnuts.
Special features
The 1500 ml magnum. Together with Alberto Oggero and Enrico Cauda, Luca Faccenda founded the SoloRoero collective, which aims to draw more attention to the region. The labels are designed by Carolina Roggera, who works as a graphic designer.
