About this wine

Character

A single-varietal Nebbiolo that puts precision and finesse before power. Even on the nose it shows a cool, mineral depth, and in the glass a pale ruby red with violet reflections and delicate lightening towards the rim. This is Nebbiolo from the Roero in its elegant, early-accessible form.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow in the communes of Canale and Santo Stefano Roero, in Mompellini, Loreto and San Grato. The subsoil is characterised by clay and sand, with exposures ranging from southwest through east to west. Luca Faccenda and Carolina Roggero farm 3.5 hectares on steep sandy slopes between 260 and 400 metres in altitude, on the Sabbie Astiane, an ancient seabed.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Nebbiolo from vineyards of different ages. Each parcel is harvested at its own optimal ripeness, after which the lots are brought together in a blend. Fermentation takes place over several weeks in barrels, and bottling occurs under the waning moon of the following autumn. After further ageing in bottle, the wine goes to market.

On the palate

Dry, with red-berry fruit and delicate fruit sweetness. The acidity is refreshing, invigorating, and lends the wine an especially slender feel; the 14.0% vol. never come to the fore. On the nose, sour cherry and wild raspberry lead, alongside blossom, thyme and rosehip.

Food pairing

A companion for authentic dishes of Italian cuisine.

Special features

Luca Faccenda studied oenology and works on the principle that everything is already present in the grape and only needs to be preserved. Carolina Roggero, a graphic designer, creates the labels. Together with Alberto Oggero and Enrico Cauda, Faccenda founded the collective SoloRoero, which aims to bring more attention to the region.
