About this wine
Character
A Nebbiolo that voices spice and fruit with equal intensity: dried rose petals, incense and oriental spices such as cardamom and clove over red and sweet berries. All the aromas are finely interwoven and underlaid by a cool, stony minerality.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from the Sola vineyard in Audinaggio, in the Valmaggiore within the municipality of Vezza d'Alba. The original core of the vineyard dates back to 1947, and the slope is so steep that only hand work is possible. The rows face southeast, south and southwest, and the soil is sandy. In total, Valfaccenda farms 3.5 hectares across five sites, at altitudes between 260 and 400 metres.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Nebbiolo, harvested at optimal ripeness. Fermentation and maceration last several weeks, after which the wine ages in barrel. It is bottled under a waning moon in the autumn following harvest, followed by nearly two further years of bottle ageing. 14.0% vol., dry.
On the palate
Expansive, with juicy fruit and a fine fruit sweetness. The tannic structure shows both ripe and present, while the acidity keeps the wine lively.
Food pairings
With braised dishes and grilled fare, and also superb with offal.
Special features
The wine carries the Riserva designation only in particularly outstanding vintages. The estate bears the family name already recorded on a 1749 map as Valle Faccenda; it was founded in 2010 by Luca Faccenda and Carolina Roggero. Its guiding principle: everything is already in the grape, one only has to preserve it.
