About this wine
Character
A lean, bone-dry sparkling wine with a fine perlage. Rather than aiming for richness, it focuses on tension and drive: the vibrant acidity carries the palate, the characteristic spice of Gelber Muskateller remains purely expressive, and nothing has been smoothed over.
Terroir and Origin
Southern Styria around Ehrenhausen is defined by steep hillsides along the Slovenian border. The limestone-rich soils impart signature structure to the region's white wines. The three hectares that Manfred Tement took over in 1976 have grown into nearly 100 hectares today; since 2005, his son Armin Tement has overseen viticulture and winemaking.
Grape Variety and Vinification
100% single-varietal Gelber Muskateller, crafted according to the Méthode Rurale and bottled as Brut Nature—completely without dosage. This allows the pure grape aromatics to shine unadorned. In the Tement cellar, low-intervention practices, spontaneous fermentation, and extended lees ageing define the style.
On the Palate
The nose reveals elderflower and lime zest, complemented by green apple and a subtle hint of nutmeg. The initial attack is dry and chalky, the mousse remains delicate, and the finish is marked by citrus precision and a saline edge. 11.5% ABV.
Food Pairings
Ideal as an aperitif, with oysters and light seafood starters. Equally delightful alongside river fish ceviche, shrimp tempura, or a vibrant summer salad with sheep's milk cheese.
Key Facts
The transition to biodynamic farming began in 2017; membership in Respekt-BIODYN reflects this holistic philosophy. Today, the estate is managed in its third generation by Armin and Stefan Tement.
