About this wine
Character
A red wine with cool aromatics and a crisp edge: cassis and blackberry meet violet, morello cherry and green pepper. At 12.5% vol. it stays lean, carried by taut acidity and fine-grained tannin.
Terroir and origin
The Tement estate is located in Ehrenhausen in Southern Styria, with almost 100 hectares spread across the steep slopes on both sides of the Slovenian border. The limestone soils give the wines tension and mineral sharpness. Manfred Tement took over the estate in 1976 with three hectares, following his father's early death; today the third generation works alongside him with sons Armin and Stefan, with Armin responsible for viticulture and the cellar.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Cabernet Franc from old vines. Restraint dominates in the cellar: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees ageing and the careful use of large wooden casks. The wine is vinified dry.
On the palate
Dark, juicy fruit, joined by spicy and slightly green notes that give the acidity contour. The tannin remains fine-grained, the finish cool and long.
Food pairings
Rack of lamb with rosemary or saddle of lamb with herb crust, beef goulash, duck breast, grilled peppers and aubergines, mushroom dishes as well as mature mountain cheese.
Special features
Cabernet Franc is a rarity in Styria and an exception in the estate's range. The conversion to biodynamic farming began in 2017, and the estate is a member of Respekt-BIODYN. Bottled by Tement GmbH, Zieregg 13, Ehrenhausen.
