About this wine

Character

A monument of modern Priorat: dark and spicy, yet silky and of cool elegance. At 15.0% ABV, the wine is dry and densely built without losing its tension. The Magnum format gives it additional time to evolve.

Terroir and origin

At its heart is the Escales site near Gratallops: 1.7 hectares across seventeen terraces, surrounded by forest. The Garnacha vines, some over 80 years old, are rooted in pure llicorella slate. It is from these slate terraces that the mineral backbone carrying the wine comes.

Grape variety and vinification

A blend of Garnacha and Syrah. Daphne Glorian has worked according to biodynamic principles since 2004, supported by Ester Nin. In the cellar, traditional barrels and foudres are now joined by concrete vats and amphorae. No more than twelve barrels are produced per vintage.

On the palate

Concentrated and deep, with blackberry and black cherry, joined by black pepper and dried herbs. The tannins are velvety and finely drawn, the slate note keeps the fruit cool, and the finish stays spicy for a long time.

Highlights

In 1989, Álvaro Palacios and René Barbier persuaded their friend Daphne Glorian to invest her savings in old Garnacha vines across seventeen terraces near Gratallops. The first ten vintages were made in René Barbier's cellar at Clos Mogador. Clos Erasmus was the first wine from Priorat to receive 100 Parker points, and did so more than once. Quantities remain small, and allocation is strictly limited.
