About this wine

Character

The Clos Erasmus 2022 is the flagship wine of Clos i Terrasses, the estate Daphne Glorian founded in Gratallops in 1989. Ruby red in the glass, dark and spicy in profile, yet silky and marked by cool elegance. The 15.5% ABV carries the wine without ever weighing it down.

Terroir and origin

At its heart lies the Escales site: 1.7 hectares across seventeen terraces, surrounded by forest, with vines partly over 80 years old. The soil is pure Llicorella slate, barren and steep, characteristic of the Priorat's precipitous slopes.

Grape variety and vinification

70% Garnacha and 30% Syrah. The grapes ferment spontaneously in wooden vats of varying sizes. The wine then ages for 18 months in new and used barriques, with a small portion in clay amphorae. Since 2004, Daphne Glorian has farmed biodynamically, supported by Ester Nin.

On the palate

The bouquet is fine, elegant and deep: pure, clear-toned fruit, sensuous floral notes, and with increasing air contact an earthy minerality unfolding in ever new layers. On the palate this depth continues, powerful and energetic, with noble tannins and a velvety-silky texture. The finish is ultra-long and at once juicy, saline and spicy; the sensation lingers on the palate for minutes.

Food pairings

With braised leg of lamb, braised game fowl or mature Manchego.

Distinctive features

The Clos Erasmus was the first Priorat wine to receive 100 Parker points, and did so more than once. Production is capped at twelve barriques, with allocation strictly limited.
