About this wine

Character

A Sauvignon Blanc designed for longevity. The extended time in the cellar before bottling has rendered the aromatics calmer and more expansive without compromising its cool core: ripe gooseberry and passion fruit rest upon a chalky, almost saline foundation, complemented by delicate herbal spice.

Terroir and Origin

The wine hails from Ehrenhausen in Southern Styria. Manfred Tement took over the estate in 1976 with three hectares; today, the family cultivates nearly 100 hectares on steep hillside vineyards on both sides of the Slovenian border. The region's limestone-rich soils impart a distinctive sense of origin to this Sauvignon Blanc: cool, taut, and marked by pronounced minerality.

Grape Variety and Vinification

100 percent Sauvignon Blanc, 12.5% ABV, dry. In the cellar, the estate adopts a low-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees aging, and the judicious use of large wooden casks. The transition to biodynamic farming began in 2017. Here, "Spätfüllung" indicates that this vintage matured longer in the cellar before being bottled.

On the Palate

Dense and mineral, with a taut acidity that keeps the wine vibrant and in motion. The finish is long and defined by chalky salinity, with the ripe fruit lingering gracefully in the background.

Special Features

The 1500 ml large format further slows the wine's evolution in the bottle. Armin Tement oversees viticulture and winemaking, while his brother Stefan manages sales; both represent the third generation at the helm of the estate, originally founded by Josef Tement Sr. in 1959 with just two hectares of vines.
