About this wine

Character

A Gelber Muskateller that does not flaunt its varietal fruit, but rather structures it. The nose is forwardly fruity yet delicate and full of finesse: finger lime, lime, hops, and elderflower, followed by passion fruit, cassis, lychee, and lemongrass.

Terroir and Origin

Ried Fürst is located in Southern Styria and is classified as a 1. STK vineyard; until recently, it was called Ried Steinbach Fürst. Its soil consists of red sand. Weingut Tement in Ehrenhausen cultivates nearly 100 hectares on both sides of the Slovenian border, having initiated the conversion to biodynamic farming in 2017.

Grape Variety and Vinification

Gelber Muskateller, spontaneously fermented down to 1.1 grams of residual sugar. The wine spent 22 months on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks. The Fürst is the only wine from Tement that is matured exclusively in stainless steel.

On the Palate

Density and volume, paired with freshness and fruit. The exotic components appear poised and subtle, never shrill or loud. The wine is completely dry, the acidity dances, and the texture is fine-grained. The overall impression remains tonic, polished, cool, and energetic.

Special Features

Spontaneous fermentation, extensive lees aging, no oak: in terms of vinification, the Fürst remains an exception in the estate's portfolio. In 1986, Manfred Tement co-founded the Steirische Klassik (STK) alongside like-minded vintners, the quality association whose classification today lists Ried Fürst as a 1. STK site. Since 2005, his son Armin Tement has been responsible for viticulture and the cellar.
