About this wine
Character
A dense, serious Pinot Noir that holds power and silky texture together. Dark berry fruit and fine spice sit atop a firm tannic structure. Not a loud wine, but one that needs air and time in the glass.
Terroir and origin
Les Renardes is one of the red Grand Cru climats on the Corton slope in the Côte de Beaune. The limestone soils this family estate works give the wines their mineral signature and cool freshness. Henri Buisson introduced biodynamic principles as early as 1990, at a time when these methods were still considered eccentric; the family has farmed its parcels accordingly ever since.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir. Gilles Buisson vinifies with minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, no fining, no filtration. A method that demands absolute cleanliness in the vineyard and lets the site speak unfiltered. Aged dry, 13.0% vol.
On the palate
Deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, ripe cherry, wild berries and dark plum, alongside violet and forest floor. On the palate, taut and dense, with fine-grained tannin, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Food pairings
Venison tenderloin and saddle of roe deer in juniper jus, braised duck breast with cherries, coq au vin, beef tenderloin with truffle or hearty mushroom dishes. With cheese, aged Époisses and Comté. Decant generously and serve at a slightly cool cellar temperature.
Special features
A Grand Cru from a family estate that farms its grapes biodynamically and forgoes fining and filtration in the cellar.
