About this wine

Character

A Volnay of cool, clear definition. At 13.0% vol., the wine stays dry and light-footed, holding that tension between rustic power and silky finesse that defines the estate's red wines. Nothing is contrived: the fruit stands open, carried by a structure that never weighs it down.

Terroir and origin

"Chanlin" is a premier cru vineyard in Volnay, on the Côte de Beaune. The limestone soils of these slopes give the Pinot Noir its mineral backbone, while the parcel's microclimate lends it a delicate coolness. The 2021 vintage shows a classic expression, with a taut line rather than opulence.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir. Gilles Buisson works with minimal intervention, which demands absolute cleanliness in the vineyard: spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, no fining, no filtration. This leaves the variety's pure fruit and fine-grained acid structure untouched.

On the palate

A velvety start, then a silky texture. Wild berries and ripe cherry lead, with herbal nuances running alongside, while the lively acidity keeps the wine in motion. The tannins are supple, and a mineral thread lingers in the finish.

Food pairings

With roasted duck breast, delicate pheasant and refined mushroom dishes. Equally with a classic bœuf bourguignon or a pink-roasted rack of lamb. On the cheese side, aged Comté and a creamy Chaource pair beautifully.

Special features

Family-run estate in Saint-Romain with 13 hectares across the Saint-Romain, Santenay and Beaune appellations. Henri Buisson introduced biodynamic farming as early as 1990, when this approach was still considered eccentric.
