About this wine
Character
A Premier Cru that seeks its effect not through power but through drive and clarity. Silky tannin, cool acidity and 13.5% vol. combine to create a slender, upright Pinot Noir in which the fruit of the 2022 vintage arrives in the glass without embellishment.
Terroir and origin
Chanlin is a Premier Cru vineyard of the Volnay appellation in the Côte de Beaune. The vines are rooted in limestone soil, which lends the Pinot Noir its fine-boned structure and chalky minerality. The Buisson family has run their estate from Saint-Romain since 1947; in 1990 Henri Buisson converted the work to biodynamic principles, at a time when such methods were still considered eccentric.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir. Gilles Buisson vinifies with minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, followed by neither fining nor filtration. This approach demands absolute cleanliness in the vineyard and constant attention in the cellar.
On the palate
Red forest berries and cherry, along with violet and an herbal note, with the chalky imprint of the soil in the background. The tannin is finely woven, the acidity keeps the juicy red fruit in motion, and the finish stays long and precise.
Food pairings
Roast duck breast, leg of lamb with herbs or saddle of venison in red wine jus. Equally good with sautéed mushrooms and porcini risotto, or with aged Comté or Époisses.
Special features
Biodynamic farming since 1990, spontaneous fermentation, bottled unfined and unfiltered at the domaine in Saint-Romain. 750 ml, 13.5% vol., dry.
