About this wine

Character

A pale, lively red wine made from pure Frappato. Dry, 12.5% Vol., with fruit at the forefront and a structure that stays lean and juicy.

Terroir and origin

Since 2004, Arianna Occhipinti has farmed 42 hectares across nine contrade around Vittoria in southeastern Sicily. The sand, limestone and clay soils give each parcel its own signature: sandy sites yield silky tannins, while limestone-rich ones bring more structure, acidity and finesse. No irrigation is used, not a single drop, even in Sicily's heat. The vines are trained in the traditional alberello, the bush-vine system that copes well with this dryness.

Grape variety and vinification

Frappato has been documented in Vittoria since 1812. Arianna Occhipinti has made this native grape variety her life's work and has farmed biodynamically since 2009. The wine ferments spontaneously with its own indigenous yeasts and matures without any noticeable oak influence, without technical intervention.

On the palate

Bright ruby red with light red highlights. On the nose, strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate, alongside rose blossom and Mediterranean herbs. A juicy flow, fine, silky tannins, and a mineral acidity that keeps the finish fresh.

Food pairing recommendations

With grilled fish, pasta alla Norma and caponata. Also with antipasti, goat cheese and light charcuterie.

Highlights

At the age of 21, Arianna Occhipinti bought her first hectare of abandoned vines. The estate today includes a historic farmhouse with an antique palmento. Bottling takes place in Vittoria.
