About this wine
Character
Intense golden yellow, fine perlage, and a Champagne that draws its effect from structure: dry through to the finish, saline, mineral, with a lightly oxidative spice and ripe, lively acidity. The mousse stays fine, the intensity high.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from the Le Grand Morceaux vineyard in Talus-Saint-Prix, from chalky and clay soils of the Côte de Sézanne with embedded flint. Cyril Jeaunaux and Clémence Robin farm five hectares here biodynamically, on south-facing slopes above the Petit Morin. The vines are 61 years old.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Pinot Meunier, hand-pressed. The juices fermented spontaneously, with no added yeasts, and aged for ten months in Burgundian pièces that had already held several wines. No malolactic fermentation took place. Tirage in 2021, disgorgement in January 2024 with 0 grams dosage – Brut Nature in the truest sense, with no sugar addition whatsoever. 12.0% ABV.
On the palate
On the nose, walnuts, stored apple, coffee, grapefruit zest and a touch of earth. On the palate, then yellow plums, damsons and apples, giving way to herbs, citrus, sourdough bread crust and tobacco. The oxidative note from the nose remains present and is excellently integrated, the acidity feels ripe and is accompanied by minerality and salinity.
Special features
1,776 bottles from a single parcel. The bottles age in a cellar that Michel and Marie-Claude Jeaunaux hand-dug into the chalk in 1986: a constant 12 degrees, two to seven years of ageing before disgorgement. For biodynamic farming, consultant Jacques Mell has accompanied the estate since 2013. Cyril Jeaunaux is a member of the Terres et Vins de Champagne association.
