About this wine
Character
A sparkling wine of inner calm, even though a great deal comes together here: rich yellow fruit meets intense green aromas, and the long lees ageing answers with butterscotch and lemon tart. Zest of bergamot and lime keeps the freshness alert, grilled pineapple forms the base of the fruit, while lemon balm, sage and thyme give it life.
Terroir and origin
The Kamptal is a patchwork of primary rock, loess and volcanic remnants. Cool air from the Waldviertel flows into the valley from the north, while Pannonian warmth presses in from the south, and the temperature swings produce grapes of intense aromatic character. Fred Loimer took over the estate in Langenlois in 1998 and converted it to biodynamic farming in 2006.
Grape variety and vinification
A cuvée of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Harvested on 21 and 25 September 2018 as well as 6 September 2019, with no skin contact and gently pressed: just 50 litres from 100 kilograms of grapes. The base wine ferments for up to four weeks in neutral oak barrels at 18 to 22 °C and completes malolactic fermentation, then ages for a year in wood on the lees. Tirage on 20 August 2020, lees ageing of at least 36 months, disgorged in September 2023 at 0 g/l dosage, making it a Brut Nature.
On the palate
The entry is juicy and easy-drinking with an edge. The mousse builds creamily, followed by yeasty and yellow-fruit aromas, along with smoky accents. Then the acidity sets in, cutting through the richness and revealing the mineral side. On the finish, fruit and herbs play against each other for minutes.
Food recommendations
Oysters and sole, pan-fried turbot, veal escalope, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or aged Comté.
