About this wine
Character
A substantial, precisely defined white wine from Friuli that isn't content with mere freshness. The nose keeps evolving: fully ripe red apples and yellow pears, dripping-ripe peach, delicate citrus notes of orange blossom and zest, followed by linden blossom, honeycomb and a hint of freshly pressed linseed oil.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow in the Pozzut vineyard in Lauzacco, within the Grave sub-appellation. The soils are shaped by limestone and marl, and Lauzacco lies close to the Torre river. This is where the estate's oldest parcel stands, with vines over 30 years old that consequently yield low.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Gris. Fermentation begins in stainless steel using the pied de cuve method, followed by ageing in a large Slavonian oak cask and smaller barrels. Malolactic fermentation runs to completion, and extended lees ageing gives the wine depth and definition. 12.5% vol., vinified dry.
On the palate
Despite the expansive nose, it stays disciplined: herbal spice and pale fruit, a fine aromatic bitter note, together with a saline-mineral pull that carries through the spicy finish.
Special features
The Scarbolo family has run its estate in Lauzacco since 1982. In 2020, Lara and Mattia Scarbolo took over the roughly 30 hectares, converted to organic farming with biodynamic influences, reduced the estate's size by almost 50 percent and streamlined the range. Lara Scarbolo, trained in Udine and Bordeaux, is responsible for the vinification and works to give Pinot Grigio "a new and high-quality meaning".
