About this wine
Character
This Pinot Noir reveals the cool side of South Styria. At 13.0% vol. it remains medium-bodied, carried by lively acidity and fine-grained tannin. The fruit is brightly drawn: red cherry and wild raspberry, alongside violet and a delicate herbal spice.
Terroir and origin
The Tement winery in Ehrenhausen farms almost 100 hectares on the steep slopes straddling the Austrian-Slovenian border. The soils are limestone-rich, with gradients reaching up to 70 percent in parts of the vineyards. The family started in 1959 with two hectares; by the time Manfred Tement took over in 1976, it had grown to three.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir from old vines, whose deep roots bring concentration to the must. Restraint defines the cellar work: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees ageing and the careful use of large wooden casks shape the style rather than overpowering it. Armin Tement oversees viticulture and cellar work.
On the palate
Juicy red fruit meets silky, polished tannin. The acidity keeps the wine upright and lean, the finish stays cool, with a saline trace and a distinct limestone imprint. A red wine built on clarity rather than fullness.
Special features
The conversion to biodynamic farming began in 2017, continuing an approach that has always placed the soil at the centre of the estate's work; membership in Respekt-BIODYN underscores this commitment. Armin and Stefan Tement, the third generation, now run the estate. In 1986, Manfred Tement was among the founders of the Steirische Klassik movement.
