About this wine
Character
A village wine in the true Burgundian sense: the Village classification denotes wines that express the collective character of a commune, rather than the particularity of a single parcel. This Pommard is accordingly grounded and clearly defined, powerfully built yet finely nuanced.
Terroir and origin
Pommard lies in the Côte de Beaune, south of Beaune. The clay-rich, iron-bearing soils over a limestone subsoil give the Pinot Noir depth, tannic structure and an earthy spice. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was marked by warmth and an early, dry autumn: ripe, concentrated fruit with well-preserved acidity.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir. Gilles Buisson vinifies with minimal intervention, which demands absolute cleanliness in the vineyard: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, no fining, no filtration. The family farms its 13 hectares according to biodynamic principles, which Henri Buisson introduced as early as 1990. At 13.0% vol., the wine remains lean and dry in style.
On the palate
Deep ruby red with violet highlights. On the nose, dark cherry, blackberry and plum, underscored by violet, damp earth and a hint of oak. Full-bodied entry, silky tannins, lively acidity, long fruit-driven finish with a mineral undertone.
Food pairings
Classic Burgundian cuisine: bœuf bourguignon, braised beef cheeks, coq au vin or leg of lamb with herbes de Provence. For something lighter, mushroom risotto and game birds also pair well. With cheese: aged Comté or Époisses.
Special features
A biodynamically produced Pommard from a family estate established in 1947, based on Impasse du Clou in Saint-Romain. Bottled unfiltered, with the potential for several years of bottle ageing.
