Roche-Audran

East of the Rhône, nestled within a refuge of trees, shrubs and herbs, lies a place of lived biodiversity. Domaine Roche-Audran is farmed biodynamically by Vincent Rochette. The unassuming winemaker works with the classic grape varieties of the Rhône Valley – particularly with Syrah and Grenache, where he can draw on old vines whose deep roots bring a sense of composure even in the hottest years.

The Roche-Audran Style

Domaine Roche-Audran stands for solid winegrowing craft without airs and graces. With white wines, rosé and reds, the estate conveys the character of its region in a very approachable way. The Côtes du Rhône range convinces across the board in both flavour and quality: the Côtes du Rhône Rosé 2024 is a prime example of the Mediterranean way of life, the Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2024 the ideal everyday companion. Vincent's wines are wonderfully unfussy. This refreshingly uncomplicated character makes drinking a pleasure rather than a philosophical excess. Full of fruit and spice, they win you over with their drinkability at a barbecue, on a relaxed evening or at a family celebration.

Biodynamics as a Philosophy of Life

Vincent Rochette farms his vineyards biodynamically. Around the vineyards he has created a refuge of biodiversity with trees, shrubs and herbs, a living ecosystem that strengthens the vines and gives the wines character. The old vines of Grenache and Syrah are well prepared for nature's adversities. Their deep roots let the grower sleep soundly at night even in hot years. Côtes du Rhône: Far More Than a Mass-Market Appellation

The appellation covers a vast area along the Rhône between Valence and Avignon. Almost 50,000 hectares of vineyards are entitled to the name. Many producers are in the volume business; fortunately there are positive counter-examples such as Roche-Audran. Renowned estates from neighbouring appellations, such as Du Coulet in Cornas or producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, also bottle wines under this name. The diversity of grape varieties along the Rhône makes for wines of character. Grenache dominates the reds and rosés, and the high art of blending is actively practised here. With the Terre Nature "Sans Soufre Ajouté", Vincent has bottled a blend of Grenache and Syrah without added sulphur, a wine that thrives on purity, purism and drinkability.

The Top Wines: Cuvée César and Visan

Above the approachable Côtes du Rhône range, Roche-Audran offers more ambitious wines. The Cuvée César, named after Vincent's grandfather, shows what is possible in this region. The Côtes du Rhône Villages Visan 2022 comes from the village of the same name north of Orange and brings additional structure and depth to the glass. Slender and juicy, with fine flashes of acidity: wines that prove great bottles need not be expensive.
