About this wine
Character
A Sauvignon Blanc built on freshness and drinkability, not weight: dry, slender in body, at 12.0% ABV, with fruit that nonetheless speaks clearly. The wine makes the Tement estate's style approachable.
Terroir and origin
The vines grow in Southern Styria on coralline limestone, limestone and loamy marl; these soils give the wine its name. The Tement estate in Ehrenhausen farms nearly 100 hectares on steep slopes on both sides of the Slovenian border. Manfred Tement took over the estate in 1976 with three hectares; today Armin and Stefan Tement lead the third generation, with Armin responsible for viticulture and the cellar.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Sauvignon Blanc from vines aged 19 to 59 years, farmed biodynamically. The grapes ferment spontaneously, and the wine is aged on fine lees in steel tank and large wooden cask. Restraint is the guiding principle in the cellar.
On the palate
The bouquet is fruit-forward and pure: passion fruit and apricot, along with citrus and grassy notes of lovely aromatic intensity. On the palate, a slender body, silky texture and plenty of freshness follow, with the aromas from the nose returning in the flavour profile. Fine acidity carries the fresh finish of medium length. Fruity and juicy, straightforward and light, with wonderful drinkability.
Special features
The conversion to biodynamic farming began in 2017 and has applied to the whole estate since 2022; Tement is a member of Respekt-BIODYN. In 1986, Manfred Tement founded the quality initiative Steirische Klassik (STK) together with like-minded winegrowers. Bottling takes place in Ehrenhausen, this wine in a 1500 ml magnum.
