About this wine

Character

A white wine of profound inner calm that nonetheless makes a powerful entrance. The nose oscillates between two aromatic spectrums: on one hand grapefruit, passion fruit, peach, and ripe pear; on the other artichoke, green pea, and fennel. Beneath lie sencha tea, the delicate bitter grip of grape skins, and an abundance of fresh herbs—lemon balm, lemon thyme, and parsley, accompanied by coriander leaves and seeds.

Terroir and Origin

Ried Zieregg is home to numerous microclimates, which Tement has divided into increasingly fine parcel selections over the years. The foundation for this bottling is "die sieben Reihen", an exceptionally steep, windy, and barren plot. It represents the steepest part of the site with the most extreme conditions. The winery in Ehrenhausen is led today by the third generation, Armin and Stefan Tement.

Grape Variety and Vinification

100% single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc, 13.0% ABV, dry. The maturation follows the patient philosophy typical of Tement's single-vineyard wines: 30 months on the fine lees in neutral oak, followed by bottling without filtration. This extended time on the lees reveals itself in bready, dough-like nuances and a delicate hint of cold smoke.

On the Palate

Pure drive and density, salted caramel, and the mineral sensation of licking wet stones. At first, the wine completely holds its fruit in reserve; only as the initial tension yields do the fruity and vegetal nuances find their stage. The herbs provide invigorating freshness, an earthy, dark tone resonates in the background, while bright spices such as allspice and white pepper follow through. The finish is remarkably saline.

Special Features

The Vinothek Reserve is produced only in exceptional vintages. The Sauvignon Blanc from Zieregg was crowned the world's best of its kind back in 1991. The estate's transition to biodynamic farming began in 2017.
