About this wine
Character
In Apetlon, Velich is synonymous with white wines that unite concentration and finesse. Heinz Velich oversees the vineyard and cellar work, while his brother Roland manages sales and communications. Minimal yields, meticulous selection, and no oenological shortcuts: in its youth, the 2022 Tiglat remains taut and mineral-driven, with sage and mint lending vibrant freshness.
Terroir and Origin
The Tiglat single vineyard is located on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, where the Pannonian climate influences the vines with hot, dry summers, cold winters, and pronounced temperature diurnal shifts. Limestone and gravel interspersed with sand define the soils; the Tiglat comes from the most limestone-rich parcels. The vineyard was planted back in 1959.
Grape Variety and Vinification
100% Chardonnay. Fermentation begins spontaneously with wild yeasts, followed by ageing in Burgundian barrels with extended lees contact and restrained use of sulphur. Fining and filtration are carried out only when strictly necessary. The wine matures for a long period before release. 14.0% ABV, dry.
On the Palate
The nose reveals citrus and delicate peach, joined by a sea breeze, cap gun flint, and white bread crust; the yeasty nuances remain prominently displayed in its youth. Juicy and complex on the palate, with apricot, quince, preserved lemon, and vineyard peach, complemented by roasted hazelnuts and noble mushrooms. The finish is long, razor-sharp, and precise.
Food Pairings
Culinary classics, ideally with an Austrian twist.
