About this wine
Character
A Welschriesling that makes its impression not through fruit, but through salinity, drive, and depth. In the glass, medium golden yellow with green reflections, slightly cloudy — the unfiltered bottling is evident. Vinified dry, 13.5% ABV, with a finish that lingers for a long time.
Terroir and Origin
The grapes grow in the "Z Steinbruch" parcel in Southern Styria, on brown earth and coral limestone. The slope features a gradient of 40 to 50 percent, with vines situated at 430 to 460 meters above sea level. Weingut Tement is based in Ehrenhausen and cultivates nearly 100 hectares on steep slopes on both sides of the Slovenian border. It is managed in the third generation by Armin Tement, who is responsible for viticulture and cellar work, alongside his brother Stefan.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Single-varietal Welschriesling from old vines. The must ferments spontaneously, after which the wine rests for 36 months on the fine lees in small neutral oak casks. It is bottled unfiltered. This aligns with the estate's cellar philosophy: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees aging, minimal intervention.
On the Palate
On the nose, grapefruit, apple peel, hops, and flint over a cool chalky note, joined by soy sauce, sea breeze, and oyster shell. On the palate, pure umami, profound salinity, and tremendous juiciness, supported by a creamy texture. The acidity is multi-layered, and the savory flavor resonates long into the finish.
Special Features
A wine with aging potential: lees contact, acidity, and extract will carry it for years. The estate transitioned to biodynamic farming starting in 2017 and is a member of Respekt-BIODYN.
