About this wine
Character
A delicately structured, dry Pinot Blanc, shining in the glass in a bright straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose remains understated, focusing on ripe pear and yellow apple, joined by meadow herbs and a cool, smoky-stony note that lends contour to the aromatics.
Terroir and Origin
The wine hails from Southern Styria, where Weingut Tement cultivates steep hillside vineyards on limestone-rich soils in Ehrenhausen. In 1959, Josef Tement senior and his wife Edina acquired the first two hectares of vines. Following his untimely death, Manfred Tement took over the estate in 1976 and expanded it over several decades, including vineyards on the Slovenian side of the border since 2004.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Crafted exclusively from 100% Pinot Blanc, vinified dry, with a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% ABV. Restraint is the guiding principle in the cellar: spontaneous fermentation, extended lees aging, and the judicious use of large wooden casks define the style of the estate.
On the Palate
Taut and dry, driven by an invigorating acidity. The texture feels chalky, with a saline streak coursing through the wine, complemented by citrus zest and a fine nutty spice. The finish remains focused, crisp, and pleasantly tart.
Food Pairings
Pairs wonderfully with steamed char, veal fricassee, or asparagus salad with vinaigrette, as well as risotto with seasonal vegetables.
Special Features
The transition to biodynamic farming began in 2017, and the estate is a member of Respekt-BIODYN. Representing the third generation, Armin Tement, responsible for viticulture and cellar management since 2005, and Stefan Tement, overseeing sales and the Gut Pössnitzberg wine hotel since 2010, actively shape the family estate.
