About this wine
Character
Arbossar 2023 is a single-varietal Carignan from Priorat, built for freshness and drinkability. Pale in color, slender in body, driven by a high, gripping acidity that lends the wine focus without ever becoming demanding. Alongside it comes the dark, Mediterranean side of the variety: black olive, licorice and dark couverture chocolate, spiced with allspice, juniper and cubeb pepper.
Terroir and origin
The parcel lies right next to the winery in Torroja del Priorat, at 350 to 400 meters and fully north-facing, on slate and granite. The vineyard was planted in 1910, making the vines over a hundred years old. 2023 brought little rainfall and marked drought, with only some rain in July and August. Harvest began in the second week of August and was completed on September 14th; yields stayed very small but showed good balance and fine tannins.
Grape variety and vinification
100 percent Carignan, hand-harvested. Dominik Huber and Tatjana Peceric ferment whole clusters and age the wine for eight months in concrete, with no punch-downs and not a moment of oak: infusion rather than extraction. The estate's 15 hectares are farmed biodynamically.
On the palate
Savory and juicy, with a silky, smooth texture and barely perceptible tannin. The fruit profile of mulberry, raspberry and sweet cherry merges with vegetal notes of tomato, bell pepper and a touch of beetroot, with a few well-integrated bitter notes adding contour. With air, eucalyptus, mint and rosemary emerge.
Distinctive features
A single-vineyard selection entirely without oak influence. North-facing exposure, altitude and early picking keep the wine at 13.5% ABV, while concrete aging leaves fruit and spice unadorned.
