About this wine
Character
The "Aus den Lagen" Weissburgunder 2024 brings together grapes from several sites of the A. Christmann winery to form a dry white with 12.0% vol. Straightforward, clearly defined, without heaviness. The magnum format shows how seriously the estate treats even its entry-level wine.
Terroir and origin
The winery is located in Gimmeldingen in the Palatinate and has been family-owned since 1798. Following a reduction in size in 2021, it now comprises 17 hectares, all classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE or VDP.GROSSE LAGE. 70 percent is planted with Riesling, the rest with Spätburgunder and a little Weissburgunder. Variegated sandstone, limestone and terraced gravel shape each of the estate's wines differently.
Grape variety and vinification
Weissburgunder, internationally known as Pinot Blanc, vinified dry. The foundation lies in the vineyard work: organic since 2002, biodynamic since 2003. Horn manure, horn silica and compost preparations take the place of synthetic chemistry, and the work follows the lunar calendar. Steffen Christmann sums up this development as follows: "The roots reach deeper and the vineyards have found their balance."
On the palate
Fresh and juicy, with green apple, pear and quince, alongside citrus notes. The acidity is finely drawn, the finish medium in length and carried by a mineral edge.
Food pairings
Steamed asparagus with hollandaise sauce, pan-fried coalfish fillet and chicken salad with vinaigrette.
Special features
Certified to respekt-BIODYN and EU organic standards. Steffen Christmann took over the estate in 1996 as the seventh generation and has been president of the VDP since 2007; his daughter Sophie Christmann, a graduate of Geisenheim University with experience in Bordeaux and Australia, joined the estate in 2018. The magnum holds 1500 ml.
