About this wine

Character

A taut, terroir-driven Nebbiolo that shows its power not through opulence but through structure. Firm, fine-grained tannin meets a fresh vein of acidity, joined by an ethereal note of dried rose petals and tar. Its 14.5% vol. stays firmly in the background.

Terroir and origin

Rabajà lies in Barbaresco, on soils rich in limestone and marl. Vietti itself is based in Castiglione Falletto, where Carlo Vietti founded the estate in 1873. Here, Alfredo Currado began vinifying grapes from individual vineyards separately as early as 1961, long before that became common practice. Today the house farms 75 hectares across nine crus.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Nebbiolo, vinified dry. As a Riserva, the wine ages considerably longer in the cellar before release — time the variety's demanding tannic structure needs to settle and let the nuances of the 2020 vintage shine through.

On the palate

The entry is clear and cool, with dark cherry and sour cherry, underscored by dried herbs and a spicy note of forest floor. The tannin grips without drying, carrying the wine into a long, calm finish. A wine that will gain further in the coming years.

Food pairings

A classic match for Piedmontese cuisine: braised beef stew, braised lamb shank or Ossobuco. Equally compelling with tajarin with fresh truffle, venison stew, and aged Parmigiano Reggiano.

Highlights

Since 1974, Vietti's bottles have carried original artworks by artist friends, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 2016 the Krause family took over the estate, and in 2025 Vietti was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
