Barbaresco DOCG Roncaglie 2021 1500ml Magnum

A delicate, aromatic Nebbiolo that draws its impact from finesse rather than power. The nose opens with rose blossom and mint, followed by undergrowth, earth, a touch of wood, and hints of cola and red fruit.

The Roncaglie vineyard lies in the commune of Barbaresco at around 280 metres above sea level, with a south and south-west exposure and limestone, clay and sand soils. Vietti, founded in 1873 by Carlo Vietti in Castiglione Falletto, today farms 75 hectares. Alfredo Currado began vinifying the grapes of individual vineyards separately as early as 1961.

Single-varietal Nebbiolo from vines with an average age of 34 years, trained using the Guyot method, with around 4,600 vines per hectare. The 2021 vintage underwent three to four days of cold maceration with a proportion of whole berries of 20 to 25 percent, followed by 25 days of maceration in stainless steel with a merely submerged cap. Malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques, followed by 24 months' ageing in large oak. 14.5% ABV, vinified dry.

Fine, elegant and lively. Crisp acidity carries a still firm, medium-grained tannin, joined by a pulsing minerality. The wine remains precise and transparent, yet also shows a warm fruit component; floral notes and blanched almonds define the long finish.

The 1500 ml magnum format. Since 1974, the estate's bottles have featured original artworks by various artists, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 2025, Vietti was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
