About this wine

Character

A red wine that holds together fullness and drive: dense dark fruit on one side, Barbera's cool acidity on the other. Vinified dry, 14.5% ABV, without the alcohol setting the tone. The Magnum format allows the 2023 vintage to age slowly and gracefully.

Terroir and origin

The grapes come from the Barbera d'Alba area of the Langhe, around Castiglione Falletto, the medieval village at 350 metres that has been Vietti's home since 1873. This origin gives the Barbera depth and mineral tension.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Barbera, fermented dry, bottled in 1500ml format by Vietti in Castiglione Falletto. The variety brings its lively acid structure, which balances the wine against the ripe fruit.

On the palate

Deep ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, juicy morello cherry and ripe plum, alongside fine spice notes and a touch of undergrowth. Full-bodied and dense, the fruit stays present through to the finish, while the acidity keeps the wine well balanced.

Food pairings

With braised beef roast, beef goulash and game ragù, as well as with pasta with wild boar ragù or aged hard cheese.

Highlights

Since 1873, Vietti has combined winemaking and art: since 1974, the bottles have featured original artworks, including works by Claudio Bonichi, Pietro Cascella and Pier Paolo Pasolini. From 1961, Alfredo Currado vinified individual vineyards separately, laying the foundation for the nine crus that now make up the estate's 75 hectares. In 2025, Doctor Wine named the estate Azienda dell'Anno.
