About this wine
Character
The house's Barolo calling card: not a single-vineyard wine, but the sum of the zone. A Nebbiolo with a clear, cool profile, mature yet built on precision rather than power.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow in vineyards across various villages within the Barolo zone, on limestone- and clay-rich soils. The vines are between 10 and 45 years old, trained using the Guyot system, at an average density of 4,500 vines per hectare.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, with every parcel vinified separately. In the 2021 vintage, a three- to four-day cold maceration came first, with whole berries making up 20 to 25 percent. Maceration lasted two to three weeks in stainless steel, with the cap simply submerged rather than punched down. Malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques, followed by 30 months' ageing in large oak.
On the palate
Juicy and cool, with clear acid drive and firm, distinctly grainy tannin. The fruit leans toward red berries and cherry, alongside blood orange with peel, a hint of mint and liquorice. The wine stays consistently on point, thanks to its elegance and balance.
Food pairing
With brasato al Barolo, with game dishes with cranberries, with tajarin with fresh truffle and with mature hard cheese.
Special features
This wine was formerly called Barolo Castiglione. Vietti in Castiglione Falletto has existed since 1873; Alfredo Currado began here in 1961 to vinify grapes from individual vineyards separately, and in 1967 introduced a pure-variety Arneis. Since 1974, the bottles have carried original artworks by artists.
