About this wine

Character

Vietti's Derthona has substance yet never feels heavy: lean, spare, mineral-driven. Its moderate acidity works through tension and inner elegance rather than volume. What defines it are the fine, nutty, herbal bitter notes that run through the entire wine.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow in various vineyards in and around Monleale, facing southeast to southwest. Bottling takes place in Castiglione Falletto in Piedmont, where the estate was founded in 1873 and today farms 75 hectares.

Grape variety and vinification

100% Timorasso. Fermentation lasts around four weeks and takes place partly in ceramic vessels, partly in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the wine's original, slightly austere character. The wine then ages for ten months on fine lees, again spread across ceramic, stainless steel and large oak barrels. 13.5% ABV, dry.

On the palate

The nose opens with salted lemon, bergamot zest, lime and pomelo, followed by blood orange and white peach, which contribute texture rather than sweetness. Alongside these, freshly cut almond, raw macadamia, chervil and lemon balm, with a cool, restrained smoky note in the background. On the palate it is precisely crafted, with tart citrus zest lingering through the finish.

Food pairings

The bitter notes give the wine great versatility at the table. It pairs well with grilled sea bass, seafood risotto, scallops, vitello tonnato, fried artichokes and aged hard cheeses such as Castelmagno.

Special features

Since 1974, Vietti's bottles have featured original artworks by various artists, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 2025, Doctor Wine named the estate Azienda dell'Anno.
