About this wine
Character
A Chardonnay from Burgundy fermented on the skins, making it an orange wine. Pierre-Henri Rougeot ages it without added sulphur, unfined and unfiltered. The result has transparency and vibrant energy.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from the Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation. The domaine is based in Meursault and comprises 12.6 hectares with plots in Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. In the vineyard, Pierre-Henri Rougeot works exclusively by hand, with only minimal use of a tractor. The estate has been organic-certified since 2020, with Demeter conversion underway since 2021. His credo: "There can be no good wine from bad soil."
Grape variety and vinification
100% Chardonnay. Fermentation starts spontaneously with the domaine's own yeasts, and ageing takes place in the historic 18th-century cellars, once built for the Hospices de Beaune. No bâtonnage, no fining, no filtration, and as the name addition "Sans Sulfite Ajouté" states: no added sulphur.
On the palate
Amber yellow in the glass, with aromas of dried orange peel, ripe apple, herbs and toasted nuts. Dry and grippy, with an acidity that keeps the wine lively, fine tannin from the skin contact, and a saline finish. 13.0% vol.
Food pairings
Roasted duck breast and veal sweetbreads, roasted autumn vegetables, richly spiced dishes with chickpeas, as well as aged Comté.
Special features
In 2016, Pierre-Henri Rougeot shifted the domaine away from his father Marc's supermarket supply business towards quality wines. The diagonally striped labels have since identified the cuvées aged without added sulphur.
