About this wine
Character
A Pinot Noir that favours clarity over power. Ripe cherry and wild raspberry lead, followed by redcurrant and a fine herbal spice. Dry, 13.0% vol., with the lively energy Pierre-Henri Rougeot has pursued since his 2016 turning point.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Rougeot Père & Fils is based in Meursault and farms 12.6 hectares with parcels in Meursault, Volnay and Pommard, expanded in the 1960s by grandfather Hubert, who served 25 years as mayor of Meursault. Work is done exclusively by hand, with tractors used only minimally. The estate has been organic-certified since 2020, and Demeter conversion has been underway since 2021. Pierre-Henri's credo: "There can be no good wine from bad soil."
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir. The grapes remain whole-cluster, with fermentation starting spontaneously using the estate's own yeasts. Ageing takes place in 228-litre Burgundy barrels with a deliberately low proportion of new oak, in 18th-century cellars originally built for the Hospices de Beaune. Sans Sulfite Ajouté means no sulphur is added during ageing. The wine is neither filtered nor fined.
On the palate
Silky tannin, crisp acidity, with forest floor notes and a saline depth that lingers long. The magnum format gives this wine additional time.
Special features
Until 2016, the estate supplied French supermarkets; since then, Pierre-Henri Rougeot has produced only quality wines, biodynamic and sulphur-free. His formative years at Domaine de Montille shaped his reductive approach. The diagonally striped labels identify the cuvées aged without added sulphur.
