About this wine

Character

A Condrieu that shows density and freshness at once: intense in fruit, clear and refined in its outline. On the nose, a bouquet of apricot, peach, mandarin, kumquat, mango and pineapple, joined by violet and acacia honey. It has real stature.

Terroir and origin

The vines stand in the commune of Vérin, on the site known as Le Tinal, facing south and south-east. The subsoil consists of granite and biotite, and the old plantings are farmed organically. Jean-Michel Stephan runs the estate together with his son Romain, working steep slopes largely by hand.

Grape variety and vinification

100% Viognier from old vines. The grapes are hand-harvested and ferment spontaneously, after which the wine ages for over a year in used barrels. No oenological additives are used; the wood lends structure, not flavour.

On the palate

Full-bodied and crystalline, lively and powerful. All the fruit and spice components are there, yet remain sharply defined: ripe pear, apricot and kumquat, alongside fennel seed, anise, coriander, liquorice and thyme. The wine feels almost weightless, saline and ethereal.

Food pairings

Pan-fried turbot with saffron butter, cured quail with apricot chutney, Roquefort with walnuts, Thai curry with coconut milk and coriander, and grilled asparagus with almond hollandaise.

Special features

Bottled in 500 ml format at 12.5% vol., dry. This wine comes from the nature-minded estate of Jean-Michel and Romain Stephan in Tupin-et-Semons, whose wines are made without additives.
