About this wine
Character
A mature, silky Pinot Noir, dry, at 13.5 % Vol. It is already approachable, with the fruit at the forefront while oak and cellar technique stay quiet.
Terroir and origin
The wine comes from 0.36 hectares in the climat En Vignois in Brochon, a southeast-facing mid-slope site. The vines were planted in 1947 and 1960 and trained in Guyot or cordon de Royat. Vineyard work is organic, partly biodynamic; pesticides are banned, and the vines are ploughed mechanically.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir, 85 % destemmed. After a brief week of cold maceration, the berries ferment in tank, using only native yeasts. This is followed by 12 to 16 months in used 228-litre oak barrels with around 20 % new wood. No fining, no enzymes, at most a light filtration and very small amounts of sulphur.
On the palate
On the nose, intense, ripe cherry, raspberry and blackberry, the fruit almost baked, as in a cake with streusel and quatre-épices, without ever becoming heavy. Beneath lie cool, stony notes. The wine fills the palate fully, remains juicy and spicy, the acidity round, the tannin silky.
Special features
2023 is the final vintage of this wine; from 2024 the Fixin Sélection Pinots Fins takes its place. Jérôme Galeyrand came to wine through the cheese trade, bought his first 0.05-hectare plot in 2002, and today farms 5.25 hectares from Saint-Philibert. In 2020 he was awarded a star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France.
