About this wine

Character

An intensely spicy Pinot Noir: tobacco, undergrowth and peat carry the nose, with ripe wild strawberries, sloes, dark chocolate and bitter orange zest underneath. Open and straightforward in profile, ripe and round. A wine that speaks quietly yet lingers.

Terroir and origin

Les Champs de Vosger lies below the village of Fixin in the northern Côte de Nuits. The light, sandy soils shape this wine's earthy, spicy character. The vines were planted in the 1980s and are farmed organically, partly biodynamically; the soil is worked mechanically and pesticides are excluded. The domaine, based in Saint-Philibert, spans 5.25 hectares.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir, 80 percent whole-berry fermented in tank, using only indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasted twelve months in used 228-litre oak barrels with a small share of new wood. No fining, no enzymes, only light filtration if needed, and no to very minimal sulphur additions. 13.5% vol., dry.

On the palate

Juicy and inviting, with the gentle sweetness of ripe berries and cherries, joined by liquorice and bitter-spicy notes reminiscent of an amaro. The tannin is silky, the acidity finely integrated, fullness and length in balance.

Special features

Depth, structure and remarkable ageing potential define this Fixin. Jérôme Galeyrand came to Burgundy from the cheese trade and bought his first 0.05-hectare parcel in 2002; in 2020 he was awarded a star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France. The domaine's annual production is around 2,000 cases.
