About this wine
Character
The Dits del Terra 2019 is a single-varietal Carignan from Torroja in the Priorat, dark, spicy and cool in stature. The nose opens with green and black olives, followed by fennel, rosemary and sage. Earthy depth comes from juniper, green and black pepper and cocoa bean, softened by cocoa butter. Above this lies a greenish, ethereal note of bramble bushes, along with slate spice and fresh tar.
Terroir and origin
The vines stand on Torroja's south-facing slopes, fully exposed to the sun, on slate; cypress trees cast shade along the hillsides. They are 60 years old and grow at around 400 metres of altitude. Dominik Huber and Tatjana Peceric farm their 15 hectares organically and biodynamically.
Grape variety and vinification
Carignan, fermented as whole clusters in cement rather than extracted in wood; pigeage has not been used since 2009. The wine rests for 16 months in Stockinger foudres and cement tanks. The yield is 1,500 kg per hectare, the alcohol 14.0% vol., and the wine is dry.
On the palate
Cool, juicy and full of finesse, dense and concentrated without fullness or heaviness. Silky and polished, with room for its edges and character. Sour cherry steps forward more clearly here, alongside mint, eucalyptus and sage, the finest tannin and an earthy character. The finish carries the herbal spice for minutes.
Food pairing suggestions
Tomato and beetroot gazpacho with Arbequina olive oil, fennel bake with sun-dried tomatoes, green olives and anchovies, or braised rabbit leg with caramelised carrots.
Highlights
4,000 bottles were filled from the 2019 vintage. Dominik Huber is among the earliest harvesters in the region, meeting the hot summers with biodynamic preparations in the vineyard.
