About this wine
Character
A white wine of clarity and balance, dense yet elegant, with a distinctive personality defined not by weight but by depth.
Terroir and origin
This single-vineyard wine comes from one hectare in Sabanell, a hamlet in the Alt Penedès near Barcelona. The Mediterranean lies 30 kilometres away and moderates the climate, while cool nights at 400 metres of altitude preserve the acidity. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Xarel·lo. The grapes are hand-picked into 15-kilo crates, and fermentation proceeds spontaneously with wild yeasts, without any correction to the must. The wine is aged in used 300-litre oak barrels; unlike other wines from the estate, the concrete egg is not used here.
On the palate
Crisp acidity carries the wine, remarkable for a hot, dry vintage like 2022 and at just 12.5% vol. alcohol. Alongside it, a citrus profile, some stone fruit and a lively salinity on the finish. The texture is full and creamy, the line straight and precise.
Food pairings
With halibut and with mushroom risotto.
Notable
Enric Soler ran a sommelier school in Barcelona before inheriting his grandfather's vineyard in 2004 and starting to make wine himself at Cal Raspallet, a late-19th-century Catalan farmhouse. His grandfather planted the vines there in 1945. At just under three hectares and a little over 10,000 bottles a year, the estate remains a hands-on, artisanal operation; Ester Nin advises on the vinification.
