About this wine

Character

A delicate, pure Grüner Veltliner whose drive derives from acidity rather than alcohol. The estate's wines range between 11 and 12.5 percent, and that is precisely where the tension of this vintage lies: dancing in appearance, powerful at its core.

Terroir and Origin

The Riede Braunsdorfer is part of the 2.5 hectares farmed by Markus and Heideline Lang in Stein an der Donau. Here stand 80- to 100-year-old vines, cultivated according to Demeter guidelines with 2.4-metre-high canopies. The cellar lies deep within the mountain's gneiss, a bomb-proof tunnel from the Second World War maintaining a constant 9 °C.

Grape Variety and Vinification

100 percent Grüner Veltliner, harvested not by sugar levels, but by pH value—at pH 3.0 for the Grüner Veltliner. Two days in the beam press, which Markus Lang constructed himself after 25 years in aircraft manufacturing: 100 tonnes of pressing force, pressed under the open sky. Followed by spontaneous fermentation in large wooden casks and 2.5 years of maturation on the lees in stone amphorae.

On the Palate

The glass reveals a precise aroma of crisp green apple, citrus, and ginger, underpinned by cool minerality. The palate confirms this freshness: a multifaceted structure, precise acidity, and a long, invigorating finish.

Special Features

Demeter-certified, bottled with minimal sulphur. The entire estate produces only around 12,000 bottles annually; the Fuchs & Dachs 2021 ranks among the house's flagship wines.
