About this wine
Character
The Invitation is the entry-level cuvée of Champagne Huré Frères in Ludes, and it shows exactly what the house is aiming for: dry, clear, without embellishment. François Huré has run the third-generation estate since 2008, while his brother Pierre has tended the vineyards since 2012. In magnum format, the champagne gains more time to develop calmly.
Terroir and origin
Pierre Huré farms ten hectares of Premier Cru vineyards in Ludes and Villedommange. Ludes, on the eastern side of the Montagne de Reims, yields elegant, age-worthy wines from its chalky, clay-rich soils, while Villedommange, on the western slope, contributes fullness and balance. Freshness comes from the cooler Ardre valley, with Brouillet, Serzy and Prin. The Invitation brings these sites together in a single cuvée.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier carry the wine: one lends structure and length, the other juicy fruit. The base is the 2022 vintage. Three years on the lees build the texture, after which the dosage stays minimal, as an Extra Brut demands. 12.0% vol.
On the palate
The opening is citrusy and cool, with white peach and lemon zest. The fine bubbles carry notes of brioche and toasted almond, underpinned by chalk. The acidity stays taut, the finish saline and dry.
Food pairings
With oysters and other seafood, with pan-fried sea bass, sole or poached sea fish. Sautéed mushrooms, baked champignons and quiche also work well, as does a piece of Comté.
Special features
A third-generation family estate, self-managed vineyards, with the cellar and vines in the hands of the two brothers. The 1500 ml magnum format slows maturation on the lees and later in the bottle.
