About this wine
Character
A dry Blanc de Blancs built on clarity: chalk and lemon zest set the direction, while the frame stays lean. François and Pierre Huré make champagne that speaks of origin rather than cellar technique.
Terroir and origin
Villers Marmery lies in the Montagne de Reims, and the village's vineyards belong almost entirely to Chardonnay. Huré Frères itself is based in Ludes, in the eastern Montagne de Reims, where chalky, clay-rich soils yield elegant, age-worthy wines. In total, the brothers farm ten hectares of Premier Cru vines in Ludes and Villedommange.
Grape variety and winemaking
100% Chardonnay, 12.0% vol., dry. That a single grape variety can stand on its own is something the house demonstrates in its 4 Éléments series: each variety from a single plot, vinified separately. François Huré, trained in Dijon and schooled by Jean-Pierre Fleury, the pioneer of biodynamics in Champagne, has run the cellar since 2008; his brother Pierre joined in 2012 for the vineyards.
On the palate
Taut and linear, with lively acidity and chalky minerality. On the nose, green apple and white blossom, with a hint of brioche behind. The finish stays clean and long.
Food pairings
Oysters, raw fish and sushi, scallops or goat cheese with a little age. Also grilled fish with lemon, risotto with green asparagus and white poultry in citrus sauce.
Special features
What began in 1960 with the estate's purchase by Georges and Jeanne Huré has carried the name Huré Frères since 1971 and is now run by the third generation. The cellars in Ludes also hold a solera, topped up every year since 1982 and never emptied: over 40 vintages.
