About this wine
Character
The Invitation is François and Pierre Huré's calling card, and the name fits: the nose offers pastry, apricot and peach, vanilla, ripe apple, a touch of cherry and crushed stone. In the glass, a deep straw yellow with a hint of copper and fine perlage.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from Ludes and Villedommange in the Montagne de Reims, as well as from the Vitryat, namely Vavray Grand. Ludes, on the eastern side of the Montagne, yields elegant, age-worthy wines on chalky clay soils, while Villedommange, on the western side, contributes richness and balance. Pierre Huré tends the ten hectares of premier cru vineyards in Ludes and Villedommange, while François pulls the strings in the cellar.
Grape variety and vinification
A cuvée of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. The base is the 2021 vintage, rounded out with 25 to 40% wine from previous years drawn from the house's own solera. Three years on lees, disgorged in November 2024 with a dosage of 4.5 grams, making it Extra Brut.
On the palate
The fine mousse combines with bright fruit, citrus notes, pome and stone fruit, and cream-filled pastry. Alongside these full, mouth-filling notes, the champagne stays nimble and fresh, building pressure, showing a distinct mineral streak and a fine herbal, stony spice. The long finish holds delicate sweetness, lively acidity and complexity in balance.
Food pairing recommendations
As an aperitif, with pan-seared scallops, shellfish and fine poultry dishes with morel sauce.
Special features
The solera in the cellars of Ludes has been topped up year after year since 1982 and is never emptied. More than 40 vintages flow together within it, tended by three generations of the Huré family.
