About this wine

Character

A dry rosé sparkling wine with texture and drive. Brut Nature here means zero grams of dosage: the fruit carries itself without any sweetness, cool and precise, never loud.

Terroir and origin

Alta Alella lies in the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, two kilometres from the Mediterranean and fifteen kilometres from Barcelona's Ramblas. The vines grow at 100 to 220 metres altitude, facing southeast towards the sea. The sandy granite Sauló soil defines the estate's wines: acidity-driven, almost free of limestone, with good drainage.

Grape variety and vinification

100 percent Mataró, as the variety is known here; Monastrell and Mourvèdre denote the same grape. Ten hours of cold maceration set the colour. The 2021 vintage fermented entirely in stainless steel at a controlled 15 °C, followed by 46 months of ageing on the lees. Bottled at 0 g/l dosage, 12.0% vol.

On the palate

Immediately present, cool, with a fine, lively mousse. Wild raspberry, rosehip and red apple stand out distinctly without dominating, meeting white pepper, marjoram and allspice. Lemon balm, chervil and tarragon keep the aromatics fresh, behind which lies a bready depth of peach cake and tarte Tatin. Subtle bitter notes and lively acidity provide grip, while the minerality stays stony and saline with a hint of oyster shell. The finish is spicy, herbal and lightly bitter.

Distinctive features

Josep Maria and Cristina Pujol-Busquets bought the overgrown Can Genís estate in 1991 and rescued 60-year-old vines. Today, their daughters Mireia and Georgina run the winery, organic from day one. Yields stay below 6000 kilograms per hectare. 46 months of lees ageing and zero dosage produce a rosé Cava with enough substance for the table.
