About this wine
Character
A Blanc de Blancs that lets the chalk speak: dry, clear, herbaceous. Four grams of dosage add no sweetness ahead of the terroir, while the warmer southern plots of Vertus lend the wine richness and depth.
Terroir and origin
The Chardonnay vines grow on the flatter, warmer southern plots of Vertus on the Côte des Blancs. Larmandier-Bernier farms 16 hectares there across 17 parcels, from Vertus to Avize, on pure chalk. Pierre Larmandier banned herbicides in 1992 and converted fully to biodynamic farming in 1999, among the first estates in Champagne to do so. Since 2017, his son Arthur has worked alongside him.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay, blended as a cuvée from up to six vintages. The wine ages for over 24 months sur lattes, receiving four grams of dosage after disgorgement. Cellar interventions remain minimal: spontaneous fermentation with the estate's own yeasts, no filtration, no fining; ageing takes place in large wooden foudres from the Austrian cooperage Stockinger.
On the palate
Lemon yellow in the glass, with a lively mousseux of large, persistent bubbles. The nose shows chalk, fresh citrus and white wild strawberries, alongside herbs and the bitter scent of tonic water. The palate opens precise and pure, as one would expect from a young Blanc de Blancs grown on chalk, while the warmth of the southern plots lends substance and depth beneath.
Food recommendations
As an aperitif with parmesan puff pastries, followed by cedra lemon carpaccio with scallop tartare or duck rillettes with brioche.
Special features
The 3000 ml double magnum is the format for long tables, 12.5% vol. The house stays true to form down to the last detail: the bottles arrive without capsules.
