About this wine
Character
A Muscadet that draws its stature not from fruit, but from texture and saline drive. Dry, 12.5% Vol., with a cool presence and a clear line.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Luneau-Papin is based in Le Landreau in the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine region and farms almost 30 hectares across a patchwork of granite, gneiss and schist. Pierre-Marie Luneau runs the estate in the ninth generation together with his wife Marie; some of the vines have been rooted since the 1940s. The estate has farmed organically since 2008 and according to biodynamic principles since 2014.
Grape variety and vinification
Melon de Bourgogne, a variety that absorbs whatever the soil gives it. Extended lees ageing defines every wine from the house: at least 16 months for the entry-level wines, up to three years for the top cuvées. The wine stays on fine lees in enamelled concrete tanks throughout, without racking and without any addition of sulphur until bottling. The result is a silky richness rather than cutting acidity.
On the palate
Lemon, grapefruit and green apple, alongside white flowers and a note of wet stone. Lean body, vibrant acidity, saline minerality, cushioned underneath by a leesy note.
Food pairings
Oysters and mussels, sole, goat cheese and smoked fish.
Special features
Demeter and Biodyvin certified since 2019, with the Demeter logo featured on the label. In 2015, Wine & Spirits named the estate "International Winery of the Year". Bottled in a 1500 ml magnum.
